The FIP Senior World Cup lands in Buenos Aires for the first time to celebrate its fourth edition, after stops in Estepona (2018), Las Vegas (2022), and La Nucía (2024). The 2026 tournament kicked off last Friday, September 11, with three intense days of men’s qualifying. Of the 11 teams that fought for a spot in the final, only 10 made it: Hong Kong fell short.

With the brackets now set—32 men’s delegations and 26 women’s delegations spread across five age categories: +40, +45, +50, +55, and +60—the final phase of the world event began on September 14. For six days, several teams will compete on a stage that honors the sport’s legacy while proving that talent knows no age.

In the women’s tournament, 5-0 was the undisputed scoreline for the delegations from Italy, Portugal, Argentina, France, and the defending champions Spain, who didn’t drop a single match against Uruguay, Canada, Switzerland, Paraguay, and Lithuania, respectively.

In the men’s bracket, Spain, Italy, and the current title defenders, Argentina, didn’t give their rivals a chance either: they won 5-0 against Egypt, Japan, and Uruguay, respectively. Portugal nearly swept Chile (4-1), losing only in the +40 category, while France, with an identical result to the Portuguese delegation, beat Canada 4-1, letting the point slip in the +55 category.
