Peu Araújo and Pedro Graça claimed their second CUPRA FIP Tour title of the season. Having been crowned champions at the FIP Bronze in Madeira last February, the Portuguese pair have now added the 2026 FIP Bronze in Portimão to their tally, after comfortably defeating the Spanish duo Samuel Rivas and Pepe Aliaga 6-3, 6-3.
“I’m really pleased with this win. Winning is always special (…). It’s also down to all the hard work that goes into it and knowing that we’re on the right track. It gives us confidence and motivation to keep working and push ourselves even harder,” says Araújo.
Between 5 and 9 August, the Portimão Municipal Tennis and Padel Complex (Portugal) witnessed the victory of the European runners-up, the Portuguese national team. Their path to the title included victories over Henrique Orge and Gonçalo Valente (6-3, 3-6, 6-3) in the round of 32; Juan Carlos Gutiérrez and Adrián Molina (4-6, 6-2, 6-3) in the round of 16; Manuel Sousa and Tiago Valério (6-1, 6-3) in the quarter-finals; Sergio Icardo and Jordi Casanova (6-4, 6-3) in the semi-finals, before reaching the final against the fifth seeds, Samuel Rivas and Pepe Aliaga.
In the first set of the final, the match remained evenly balanced until the seventh game. It was then that Araújo and Graça broke the Spaniards’ serve and took a 4–3 lead. With the set well under control, the third seeds did not take long to secure another break and close out the set 6–3.
At the start of the second set, Rivas and Aliaga set the pace and took the lead with a break in the third game. Araújo and Graça’s response was immediate: in the sixth game, they broke their opponents’ serve and levelled the score (3–3). From then on, the Portuguese pair dominated the match unquestionably, securing another break in the eighth game and closing out the match with a final score of 6–3.
“In the final, I felt a mix of emotions. On the one hand, it was a huge sacrifice. I woke up the day before with the flu, and it was a very physically demanding tournament, both because of that and because of the extreme heat in which we played. On the other hand, it felt good to finally break the run of poor form we’d been going through recently, with lots of third-set defeats. We went out there very focused and managed to play our game. It was a very closely fought tournament, but we were very solid at the crucial moments,” says Peu Araújo.
With this victory, the current number one and two in Portugal’s absolut´s national rankings have added 40 points to their FIP rankings and will each receive a cash prize of €950.
