It took very little, just two sets, for Martina Calvo<\/strong><\/a> and Claudia Fern\u00e1ndez<\/a> <\/strong>to have to make room on the shelf for a new trophy. In the final of the D\u00fcsseldorf P2<\/strong>, the pair coached by Pablo Sempr\u00fan defeated Ari S\u00e1nchez<\/a><\/strong> and Andrea Ustero<\/strong>,<\/a> the third-seeded team, by a commanding 6-3 and 6-0<\/strong> in just 1 hour and 8 minutes. <\/span><\/p>\n

If last week the number four seeds stayed at the gates of the final at the Rotterdam P2<\/a>, this time they were not satisfied and broke down the door. This was reflected in a match characterized by the speed with which they imposed their game. While in the first set S\u00e1nchez and Ustero still found openings to compete, in the second they were left without options. Sempr\u00fan’s team took advantage of their three break opportunities to secure a clean set and seal their victory at the P2 in Germany. <\/span><\/p>\n

It was not the first time that both pairs had faced each other in a final. At the Paris Major, the outcome had favored \u00c1ngel Gonz\u00e1lez’s team<\/a>. This time, the roles were reversed. On one hand, S\u00e1nchez and Ustero arrived on the court after a nearly three-hour semifinal against the number one team, played until late Saturday afternoon, and their bodies showed signs of extreme wear. <\/span><\/p>\n

On the other hand, Calvo and Fern\u00e1ndez stepped onto the court more focused, offensive, and tactical. On the benches was Sempr\u00fan, and perhaps, in part, that was the reason. Perhaps Fern\u00e1ndez, finding herself outside of her usual environment \u2013 not receiving direct instructions from her own coach \u2013 felt the need to focus. At the same time, Martina became more mature, less anxious, creating room for better decisions when closing out points. <\/span><\/p>\n

With this victory, each winner receives \u20ac11,000<\/strong> and adds 600 points in the FIP Race<\/strong>, an important boost to approach the next event, the Milan P1, with a greater margin.<\/span><\/p>\n

“We are super happy. It has been a dream final; we played at a great level. I dedicate this to my family, who came here to see me, and to my whole team,” Fern\u00e1ndez said after the victory.<\/span><\/p>\n

Calvo emphasized the difference between the weariness of the previous day and the resolution of the final: “Yesterday we played for three hours, and today it was much faster. We focused on fighting for every point. We played against them in Paris and it did not go well for us, because they played a perfect match.
