Following its debut in New York in early July, the Pro Padel League (PPL) made a stop in Los Angeles for its second event of the season. Between 13 and 16 August, the iconic Barker Hangar in Santa Monica hosted four days of high-intensity action featuring 10 teams. At this event, DC Matrix were crowned champions in the women’s category, whilst Mexico Waves took the title in the men’s.

DC Matrix lifts the trophy in the women’s category

The women’s title was contested between DC Matrix and Houston Volts. Araceli Martínez and Marina Guinart got off to a strong start, taking the first set 6–3. However, Ariadna Cañellas and Laia Rodríguez responded with a flawless 6–2 performance that forced a super tie-break. In the decider, the DC Matrix players kept their nerve at the crucial moments and sealed victory 11–9.

In the battle for bronze, Marta Talaván and Sofía Saiz led a comeback that secured victory for the New York Atlantics over Carolina Orsi and Noa Cánovas’s Florida Goats, winning 4–6, 7–6 and 10–7.

Mexico Waves win the men’s title

The men’s final followed the same script as the women’s. David Gala and Maxi Arce started strongly and put Mexico Waves ahead on the scoreboard. However, Luís Hernández Quesada and Juani de Pascual fought back to level the match and give the Florida Goats the chance to challenge for the title. It all came down to the super tie-break, where Mexico Waves asserted their superiority to close out the match 6-4, 3-6 and 10-2.

Thanks to a comeback by Mario Huete and Álex Ruiz, the Toronto Polar Bears took the bronze ahead of Mario del Castillo and Tino Libaak (DC Matrix).
